CRETAN MUSIC WORKSHOP IN THE HEART OF CRETE Enjoy the music, the dances and the nature of the hinterland of Rethymnon

Cretan music is a traditional folk music that combines poetry, singing, dancing and playing. An old music tradition affected by the presence of the numerous different rulers of the island throughout the centuries. In this workshop you will learn about the history of Cretan music from the beginning of 20th century till today, listen to live Cretan music and, those who want, can also learn how to dance its steps in the beautiful Margarites Gorge.

Highlights

• Introduction to the Cretan folk music by two local musicians specialising in the genre

Itinerary

• Arrival at the village of Margarites. 30 minute-tour in the narrow streets of Margarites with the Venetian architecture and the beautiful medieval churches.
• Visit a pottery shop in the village and learn how pots are made by a local potter. (Pottery was the main income for the village from the beginning of the 20th century). Estimated time: 40'. (Optional part according to the travellers' interest to do this visit. as well as to seasonal timetables)
• Walk down the beautiful Gorge of Margarites. Enjoy the route inside the forest and sit under the high plane trees. 15’ walk. There you will have a delicious local treat and the music and dance workshop will take place! Estimated time: 2:30 hours. (Optional part according to the travellers' interest to do the hike.)
• Return into the village and have lunch with the musicians ta local traditional tavern.
